The city council voted to support Resolution No. R-26-2083, which endorses the annexation of King County Fire Protection District No. 43 into the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority. The motion passed 6-0.
During the public hearing, retired firefighter PJ Knowles (Unincorporated Maple Valley) and Warren Iverson (Hobart) spoke in favor of the annexation, saying it would provide better service and give the community a vote. Puget Sound Regional Fire Assistant Chief Sean Penwell answered council questions during the staff presentation and council discussion prior to the vote.
Council directed staff to finalize a supporting letter for the July 27 meeting where additional approval actions will be considered if needed.
