The Selectboard unanimously approved Northeast Trail Adventures' application to hold the Mount Ascutney Vertical Backyard Race beginning Nov. 21, 2026 and continuing until only one competitor remains, but conditioned the approval on submission and Selectboard approval of a full safety plan in October.
Eli Burakian described the event's plans and safety preparations, noting that the 2025 inaugural race ran 90 straight hours with no reported injuries and that organizers will tighten the safety plan for 2026. "The safety plan for the 2026 iteration of the event will be further tightened to ensure on site medical coverage capable of assessing potential injuries for the duration of the event," he said. The board recorded the condition that a full safety plan, including medical coverage details and emergency services signoffs, be provided in advance and approved before the event proceeds.
