West Windsor establishes Housing Commission and creates Housing Reserve Fund

The West Windsor Selectboard voted on Jan. 12 to establish a Housing Commission as an advisory body and to create a Housing Reserve Fund to support local affordable housing initiatives. The initial five-member slate approved was Jill Appel (Acting Chair), Al Keiller, Jason Rasmussen, Jessica Barsaleau and Doug Meyer; the commission is charged with drafting a charter and mission statement for Selectboard consideration.
Planning Commission member Jill Appel said the commission would broaden the town’s housing work beyond the Affordable Homes Project to include home renovations, accessory dwelling units and home-share programs. Appel described the reserve fund as a way to receive "seed money" in the form of donations and grants and stressed it would not involve initial taxpayer funding. The motion to establish the commission was moved by Mark Harley, seconded by John Brodie, and carried unanimously.
