County says Peak Center fit‑out is on schedule and under budget; council reviews 2nd‑floor plans

County staff told the Summit County Council on March 11 that tenant improvements for the Peak Center in Kimball Junction are underway and progressing "on schedule and under budget." The ground floor program will include a library branch, a DMV branch and a council meeting space; staff said framing is finished and plumbing and other work are in progress.
Jana Young and Shane Scott described how reuse of an existing anechoic chamber reduced demolition costs and how the design team has refined circulation to locate the library and DMV for better wayfinding. "So far, things have gone really well. We're currently on schedule and under budget," a presenter said.
Council members pressed staff about public seating capacity in the new council chamber, the amount of demolition required, HIPAA/privacy needs for health department offices, and how many courthouse functions would remain in the county seat in Colville. Staff said the courthouse will remain in Colville; the Peak Center will provide local, flexible office hoteling and services for residents and county employees who need a Kimball‑Junction work location.
Staff recommended further cost refinement for second‑floor department moves before commitment; council members asked to see final TI cost estimates and a phasing plan for moving departments onto the second floor. The council asked staff to return with cost details and a proposed timetable for transitions.
