Public commenter criticizes council ethics ordinance and calls for electoral consequences

Ryan Davidson used his public comment time to sharply criticize council members’ handling of a recent ethics ordinance and to argue that the matter requires voter scrutiny.
Davidson stated that council members were conflating separate legal categories, saying the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act and the Illinois Personnel Review Act apply to different groups. “You were conflating two separate groups of people,” he said, adding that the Governmental Ethics Act already makes certain disclosures public. Davidson also said he would support challengers to members who opposed the ethics ordinance and accused some members of representing business interests over residents.
His remarks named Alderman Nunez and Alderman Franco in examples of what he called inconsistency and “dishonesty” in council debate. Davidson closed by urging adherence to the law and saying critics who voted for the ordinance had not gone far enough.
