Principal Jenny told the board August attendance was 98.61% and highlighted homecoming activities, teacher appreciation details and an anonymous coffee donation for staff. She said the district's Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Journeys subscription for elementary ELA is expiring and teachers have recommended evaluating alternatives, including Amplify CKLA and CommonLit, with middle and high school teachers currently using CommonLit.
Jenny described restructuring the Teacher Assistance Team into a Student Assistance Team to meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays to triage students who are struggling, gather data, design interventions and determine whether a referral to Title services or special education is warranted. Board members asked about diagnostic tools for older students; Mr. Nelson said the CommonLit assessment package includes built‑in interventions and OptiRead Basics was under consideration as a quick diagnostic for decoding and sight recognition.
