Board approves purchase of 10.4‑acre parcel east of school for $178,400
Summary
The Colman‑Egan School Board approved a purchase agreement for a 10.4‑acre parcel east of the school for $178,400 (about $17,150/acre); geotechnical testing and site stipulations factored into the board’s decision to favor the East parcel over a higher‑cost northern parcel.

The board approved a land purchase agreement for a 10.4‑acre parcel east of the school with a total purchase price of $178,400, which was presented to the board as approximately $17,150 per acre.
Superintendent Scott explained that the district negotiated multiple parcels and that geotechnical testing (Geotech) and landowner stipulations influenced the recommendation. He said the north parcel carried higher stipulations that could add $1.5–$2.0 million in development costs and that soil samples at the north site showed higher moisture and greater elevation variance, which would make grading and construction more expensive. "The soils over here were more suitable to build on than the soils at the north site," Scott said when summarizing Geotech findings.
Board members noted that buying the land does not set the site in stone as the athletic complex location; the purchase gives the district space for future needs while officials continue design and budgeting work. The motion to approve the purchase agreement was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote.
