District defends elementary time shifts and special-education consolidation to Park Terrace

The Gloversville City School District will shift elementary bell times (20 and 10 minutes at certain buildings) and consolidate K-2 special-education services at Park Terrace, Superintendent (S2) told the board. He said the district has planned additional supports at Park Terrace, including a full-time assistant director, more behavioral supports, increased social-worker presence and a full-time counselor.
"We have a lot of supports going to Park Terrace," the superintendent said, describing staffing and programmatic steps intended to offset the move. He acknowledged staff concerns and said the district met with union leadership and scheduled a review meeting in October to evaluate implementation after multiple weeks of classes.
The superintendent also noted transportation coordination to permit "double tripping" so parents with children in multiple buildings spend less time waiting during pick-up. He said letters were sent to impacted families and that exact door-to-door pickup times will be communicated in coming weeks.
