Alderman Carl Franco described a package of residential projects on Aurora’s West Side that he said will help draw retail investment. Franco named approximately 310 units proposed by a development near the Home Depot site, 108 units behind an Aldi, a 74-unit Prairie Meadows project and a 22-acre frontage near a Toyota plant that could host townhomes.
Franco said more rooftops will make the area more attractive to businesses that rely on local consumers and that increased sales and property tax revenue help keep taxes down. "Now we're more attractive to somebody bringing... because all these consumers are right there too," he said, arguing that infrastructure and a consumer base are the city’s primary tools to attract new retail.
