The Commission recommended approval of a rezoning (Z-7842) from RS-2 to RM-2 for a vacant property west of the northwest corner of East 62nd Street South and South Troost Avenue. Staff recommended the change to allow townhouse or multi-dwelling housing types while maintaining a 35-foot maximum building height consistent with surrounding properties. The motion to recommend approval passed unanimously, 11-0-0.
Neighbors, including the president of the 6200 Trenton Square Homeowners Association, supported development generally but asked that drainage and narrow street capacity issues be addressed before development proceeds. Staff told commissioners that street access exists on East 62nd Street, and the applicant said the development would improve property values and help address the concerns neighbors raised. Final unit counts and whether the project will be townhomes or condos will be resolved during platting and building permitting processes.
