Junior high quiz-bowl team reports national finish, asks board to revisit per-diem rule for student-raised funds
Summary
Miss Webb and students recounted their trip to the national quiz-bowl tournament in Denver, noted several top-20 individual finishes, and said the team raised about $11,000. Coach Miss Webb asked the board to consider an exception so students spending their fundraiser money would not be limited by a $50-per-day district meal cap.

Miss Webb, the junior-high quiz-bowl sponsor, showed a short video and introduced students who traveled to the national tournament in Denver, where team members posted top finishes. "Callan Johnson was our captain. He scored, he was the top 3 ... He was number 3 in the nation," the sponsor said when recognizing team results, and students described the trip27s highlights including a Rockies game and museum visits.
Miss Webb told the board the community helped raise more than $11,000 for the trip: "We raised $11,000 over $11,000 in 2 months," she said. She asked the board to revisit a district policy that limits daily food spending to $50 for trips when participants have raised their own funds, arguing that the cap is impractical on an overnight trip. Board members said they were sympathetic but noted auditing and policy wording constraints; staff said any exception would have to be carefully written to satisfy auditors and federal/state accounting rules.
The board did not vote on a policy change at the meeting; members asked staff to draft a narrowly written exception that clarifies when fundraiser funds, rather than district funds, may be spent and how auditors will be assured of proper use.
