Throughout 2017 the council managed a string of personnel changes across the clerk’s office, police and public works. The council accepted the resignation of Treasurer/Court Clerk Regina Reynolds (effective May 5) and later hired Connie Gore as city treasurer (effective June 12) and Carla Snow as deputy clerk (effective June 12). Public Works and police staffing also changed: the city accepted Robert Spencer's resignation, advertised and hired Jacob Mills as a full‑time public works employee and approved summer help hires while raising Officer Michael Miles’ pay after academy graduation.
City Clerk Devona Herrin briefed the council on recruitment and overlap needs: "We will advertise for deputy and clerk positions and ask candidates to be ready for screenings; the interim staffing and training timeframes are tight around summer schedules," she said. The council also approved compensatory and step raises tied to credentials — for example, passing a Class II water test triggered a public‑works step increase.
