Selectboard approves temporary seven-day grace on postmarked tax payments
Summary
Because USPS now postmarks at processing centers rather than local drop-off, the Selectboard granted a seven-calendar-day grace period on postmarked tax payments for the next two installments to protect taxpayers reliant on postmarks.

Town Administrator Tommy O’Conner told the Selectboard that the U.S. Postal Service changed its postmarking practice so mail is postmarked when it reaches a processing center rather than at the local post office, which can make postmarks unreliable for time-sensitive payments.
Julia Andrews moved "that we provide up to a 7 day grace period for the receipt of the next two tax installments" while the town adjusts to the change; Pat Haller seconded and the motion passed 4-0. The grace period applies to postmarked payments for the next two installments only. The board limited the change to two installments while it monitors the impact and determines whether to adopt a longer-term policy.
The board instructed staff to communicate the temporary policy to taxpayers and to make clear that taxpayers who want a hand-stamped local postmark must request it at the post office.
