Board members raised complaints about vehicles driving and parking on park grass during county fair weekend and other high-attendance events. Staff said the city already has an ordinance prohibiting driving and parking on unpaved surfaces and plans to post signage at park entrances, repair turf ruts this fall, and increase police patrols during events.
The Assistant city administrator said signs will include an ordinance reference and that the city will post informational messages on the parks board page linking to the ordinance. "We're gonna get signs and post some signs in different places so that everybody will have the chance and opportunity to see the sign," he said. Members discussed issuing tickets and the need to publicize enforcement; one member suggested spare patrols and fines to discourage repeat violations.
Staff said the city will seed and straw affected areas in the fall and indicated the signage will be informational in green-and-white to match park aesthetics. The board agreed staff should coordinate with the fair board and police to ensure added enforcement during large events.
