Board examines floating kayak kiosk proposal; insurance and liability questions flagged

Councilman Rob Fendrick told the Board that representatives from Upstate Kayak presented a plan to install a small floating dock and a donated kayak rental kiosk on the Town’s fishing pier; the kiosk and related equipment would be donated and Upstate Kayak would remit 20% of sales to the Town. Fendrick said he had asked the company for their patron contract and insurance information and that the Parks & Rec Committee has discussed the idea for three years.
Comptroller David Urkevich said the Town's insurer flagged a $5 million coverage level because the project is overwater and recommended seeking competitive proposals. The Board asked Mr. Fendrick to provide the company's contract and proof of insurance to the Building Department and Town Attorney before the Board considers formal approval.
