Councilmember McDonald asked that the council consider reviewing ordinances related to placement of trash cans near property lines and sought support to place the matter into committee. "I would like to bring to committee, a review of, trash can placements next to a neighboring property," McDonald said. The motion to send the issue to the Law and Education committee passed 6-0.
Councilmembers discussed existing law that trash cans should not be in front of homes and noted an online reporting system for ordinance concerns. The referral will allow staff and committee members to consider whether distance limits or other clarifications are appropriate.
