La Pine council votes to conclude purchase-and-sale talks for proposed data-center site

The La Pine City Council on May 27 voted to instruct city administration to "conclude this matter" regarding the proposed purchase-and-sale for Lot 2210, effectively ending the current sales negotiation for the property tied to a proposed BoxMiner data center.
Councilor [name on the motion] moved that staff be directed to conclude the matter; the motion was seconded and carried on a roll-call vote. The roll call (as read aloud during the meeting) recorded James Curtis and Mike Shields answering in the affirmative, and Kathy Van Dam and Karen Morse saying "I," after which the mayor announced the motion had passed. The council then moved on to other business.
The vote followed an extended public-comment period in which dozens of residents raised concerns about water use, wildfire risk, noise and light pollution, and the credibility of job and revenue projections presented by the prospective developer. City staff had also presented an analysis demonstrating large variances between the proposer’s initial revenue estimates and calculations based on Mid State Electric’s published rate tables, which the staff said left projected city franchise revenue and power-bill figures uncertain.
Mayor and council comments after the vote thanked staff and residents for their participation and noted forthcoming infrastructure events, including a ribbon-cutting for a $40,000,000 water and sewer project scheduled in June.
