Council approves $100,000 periodic update grant contract for comprehensive-plan updates

A representative from the Yakima Valley Conference of Governments described a periodic update grant and contract between the city, the Washington State Department of Commerce and the Conference's planning staff to update Mabton’s comprehensive plan and key development ordinances.
The presenter said the total contract amount is $100,000, split across multiple contracts and covering the period from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, with an extension to Dec. 31, 2026, after a recent legislative deadline change. “So the $100,000 is the total amount, and it's split into ...” the presenter said.
Councilmember Diane moved to approve the city's periodic update grant contract; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. The presenter said the work will proceed through the planning commission stage and that Yakima Valley COG planning staff will perform much of the work under the contract.
