Department of Ecology honors Mabton wastewater plant for top permit compliance

The Washington Department of Ecology presented an Outstanding Performance Award to the Mabton wastewater treatment plant for strong compliance with water-quality permits and timely reporting; the council and plant staff accepted the recognition. The award was announced during the Sept. 23 council meeting.
Stephanie Eason, an inspector and permit-developer/facility manager with the Washington Department of Ecology’s central regional office, presented Ecology’s Outstanding Performance Award to the city’s wastewater treatment plant and noted the award recognizes consistent permit compliance.
“Ecology honors the wastewater treatment plants in our state that achieved excellent compliance with their water quality permits,” Eason said, describing the review of permit limits, monitoring and timely reporting that goes into the selection. She added that only about 40% of treatment systems earn top-performing status in a given year.
Mayor (presiding) and multiple council members congratulated plant staff and said they would display the award in the city office. Plant staff and council members accepted the recognition and thanked Ecology for the acknowledgement. The presentation concluded with brief public thanks and the meeting moved to other business.
