District reports jump in special-education caseload and McKinney-Vento outreach

District special-education staff reported a preliminary increase of roughly 17 students eligible for special education and said staff are scheduling yearly meetings to update Individualized Education Program records and ensure compliance. Staff also reported recent McKinney-Vento training (for students experiencing housing instability) had been completed by special education staff and paraprofessionals, and that preliminary counts indicate roughly 28 students may qualify for McKinney-Vento services.
Staff highlighted a free assessment service that connects families to assistive-technology resources for students with communication needs and reported work on Perkins inventory and a potential partnership with Avera to offer a certified nursing assistant course in fall 2025. Trustees thanked staff for training completion and asked staff to continue monitoring caseload and service needs.
