Resident urges board to avoid steep increases in student breakfast and lunch prices

"So these kids need breakfast. I don't care who they are," Edwards said during public comment and later described the district's proposed breakfast price trajectory: from $2.25 now to $2.50 and then $2.75 in January. She said lunches could reach about $3.90 and argued that neighboring counties offer lower prices or free breakfast, citing Manatee, Hillsborough and others as comparisons.
Edwards urged the board to distinguish breakfast from lunch in its policy considerations and said that increases of 20% or more were "high increases." The board did not respond with a detailed policy action during the hearing; staff continue to refine budget figures and price recommendations before the final hearing.
