Board adopts tentative 2026–27 budget that trims roughly 297 positions

The Sarasota County School Board voted unanimously on July 28 to adopt the tentative fiscal-year 2026–27 budget as presented by district finance staff.
"The tentative budget includes approximately 5,889 positions compared with 6,186 positions in the 2025–26 school year. This represents an estimated reduction of 297 positions or approximately 4%," CFO Miss Jurimchek told the board. She detailed estimated changes by category: instructional positions down about 194 (~6%), classified positions down about 83 (~2%), and administrative positions down about 20 (~7% of the administrative total cited).
Jurimchek said these staffing adjustments are intended to align positions with the student population and to preserve class-size requirements. The board approved the tentative budget by unanimous voice vote; staff will continue refining revenues, enrollment and expenditures before the final adoption on Sept. 15, 2026.
