Residents warn boat parking at Fairview/Skiway could jam evacuations; sheriff and fire should coordinate, they say

Kathy Julian told the Citizens Advisory Board she is concerned that a large area used for boat parking by renters near Fairview Boulevard and Skiway could create a severe traffic jam during a wildfire evacuation, particularly if boat owners try to move boats while residents are evacuating. "The concern is that the boat people might want to evacuate their boats as well," Julian said, putting the risk on the record and urging coordination among agencies.
Julian recommended that the Washoe County Sheriff meet with Chief Ryan Summers of the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District and the utility/parking manager (IFGID) to establish clear protocols and communicate rules to people renting those parking spots. Chair Roxanna Dunn said she would forward Julian's concern to Kelly Echeverria, Washoe County's emergency-management director, and reiterated the need for pre-planning so evacuations do not bottle-neck on narrow local roads.
Captain Cole Curcio advised residents to log parking complaints through 311 or the nonemergency number so the sheriff can create service requests and evaluate county easement issues; he said actual state-park areas remain under state jurisdiction and would be handled by Sand Harbor or DPS as appropriate. The CAB encouraged formal registration of local concerns so the county could fold them into evacuation planning.
