Montour County commissioners approved a Mitigation Program application and financial assistance agreement to support the Luzerne County Flood Protection Authority’s Wyoming Valley Levee Raising Project. The board voted unanimously to accept a $532,243.06 grant that, according to the motion, "will be utilized for an early warning system for such events as flooding and tornadoes."
Mr. Finn moved for approval with Mr. Lynn seconding; the motion passed on a called vote with all in favor. EMA Coordinator Ed Burkland was designated as the county’s signatory on the agreement, and the funding was described in the minutes as intended for an early-warning system rather than construction work in Montour County.
