At the Feb. 11 meeting commissioners expressed conditional support for granting a waiver that would allow Middlebury College’s proposed boundary adjustment, but they attached clear limits: no relocation of the existing barn and no shared driveway/curb cut into the storage-structures parcel. Commissioners Jan Abers, Robin Foster-Cole and Gale Hurd voiced those positions during discussion of the sketch plan.
Commissioner Gale Hurd disclosed she previously owned the residential property at 50 Sheep Farm Road and said she sold it to Deb and Tim Short before Middlebury College acquired it. Commissioners cited past concerns about viewshed and fire‑truck access when the college added a rowing‑shell building to the storage parcel and said they would not welcome a barn site located east of that structure. The commission also observed that the proposed new boundary provides more than the 10-foot separation required from the north side of the garage.
Planning staff and the commission directed surveyor Michael Gaines to work with Weybridge Road Commissioner Matt Broughton to assign an E‑911 address to the storage parcel, which the record shows currently lacks one. Commissioners said the public hearing warned for March 11 should include plans that address access, driveway count, barn access and compliance with the PAR district minimum lot size requirement.
