County launches Move Chatham transportation study with bilingual outreach

County planning staff introduced Move Chatham on Nov. 3, a transportation perceptions and needs study that will examine how people and goods move across Chatham County and its connections to neighboring jurisdictions. Bolton & Mink consultant Lorna Allen said the study will look at automotive, bicycle, pedestrian, trail and transit networks and emphasized a public engagement campaign that includes a bilingual survey, interactive mapping input (the “input ID” tool) and multiple listening sessions.
Allen said the survey opened Oct. 17 and runs through late November and that staff will hold stakeholder meetings in November and January. She encouraged paper surveys and targeted outreach to older residents and communities with limited internet access, noting "paper surveys work great" for those who have less online access. The consultant also mentioned interpretation services at listening sessions, a web page with materials, and a March findings report. Board members offered to share the survey link with local networks, including churches and chambers, to broaden participation.
