Harvey County approved and signed the Kansas Local Bridge Improvement Program project agreement for Bridge I-19.7, a five-span, 253-foot concrete-and-steel structure on SW 14th Street, west of N. Anderson. Road & Bridge Superintendent Jim Meier told the board the project estimate is $2,550,000; under the KLBIP the state would fund 85% of construction costs and the county would be responsible for up to 15% (about $382,500).
The board approved the agreement and authorized execution. Commissioners then voted to direct staff to contact City of Newton staff about sharing a portion of the county funding commitment; that second motion passed 2–1 with Commissioner Don Schroeder recorded as the lone opposing vote. County documents in the meeting packet note the county must have the project under contract by September 2027 to preserve the state funding.
