Harvey County accepts MKEC bid of $71,500 for 2026 biennial bridge inspections

Road & Bridge Superintendent Jim Meier presented a proposal from MKEC Engineers to perform the county’s 2026 biennial bridge inspections. Meier said Harvey County has 282 bridges and the lump-sum proposal is $71,500; a new federal Specification for the National Bridge Inventory (SNBI) requires more detailed coding and added an estimated one-time $24,000 of inspector time and data work to this contract.
Commissioner Becky Reimer moved to accept MKEC’s proposal and authorize staff to sign; the motion passed unanimously. Meier said the $24,000 SNBI work is a one-time cost that should not repeat at the next biennial inspection. Staff will execute the agreement and schedule inspections per federal and state timelines.
