County accepts MKEC proposal for 2026 biennial bridge inspections, including one-time SNBI cost

The Harvey County Commission voted to accept a proposal from MKEC Engineering to perform the 2026 biennial bridge inspection program covering the county’s 282 bridges for a lump-sum fee of $71,500. Road & Bridge Superintendent Jim Meier told commissioners the proposal includes a one-time $24,000 cost to capture new federal Specification for the National Bridge Inventory (SNBI) data requirements that add time and coding to inspections.
Commissioner Becky Reimer moved to accept MKEC’s proposal and authorize staff to execute the contract; Don Schroeder seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Jim Meier told the commission he increased the departmental line item in the CIP anticipating the higher inspection cost but expects the one-time SNBI charge will not recur in 2028.
