Weybridge board approves women-only bike ride for June 20

Liz Bolt, who organizes women-focused cycling events in Addison County, asked the Weybridge Select Board on May 5 to approve a women-only community ride planned for June 20. The ride will offer a 50-mile loop and a 100-mile option (two 50-mile laps), route maps and staffed aid stations, Bolt said. "We follow the rules of the road," she told the board, adding that riders will carry route files and organizers will provide aid stations and safety support along mostly dirt and gravel roads.
Board members asked organizers to provide proof of liability insurance and suggested local notices and small directional signs to warn drivers. The chair made the request official and the board recorded affirmative votes after a motion to approve the proposal. Select Board members also suggested placing a brief announcement on the town calendar and Front Porch Forum and offering a short public-service notice in the local paper to alert drivers on the few Weybridge roads touched by the route.
The board’s approval is conditioned on submission of the requested certificate of liability. Organizers said they will provide the promised route file and signage and will coordinate removal of any temporary signs after the event. The ride’s start location will be Champlain Orchards and the course includes segments on Snake Mountain Road and Forest Road with at least one aid station on private property with the resident’s permission.
