Rescue Mission announces new beds, tiny-home plans and veteran housing goals

Bruce Metcalf reported that Rescue Mission currently operates group homes funded by BHRS with about 32 respite beds and expects to break ground soon on another 32-bed facility. He said the organization also plans a building with 40 studio apartments for transitional living, additional family transitional housing, and permanent veteran housing including a building on Childs and R streets with 21 apartments.
Bruce said the Rescue Mission purchased 10 acres with intentions to build between 75 and 150 tiny homes without state funding. He cited Point-in-Time count expectations and outlined a multi-year goal to reduce the unsheltered population; staff and the Merced Continuum of Care will coordinate outreach and placement efforts.
