9-1-1 director: addressing authority should be consolidated for safety; mobile-home and RV parks pose special challenges

Ashlyn Campbell, the county’s 9-1-1 director, explained how addressing works and why the addressing office must approve road names and unit-level addresses before a subdivision plat is finalized. "We are the addressing authority in this county," Campbell said, describing how addresses are pushed to utilities and emergency responders to ensure timely dispatch.
Commissioners and citizens discussed how mobile-home parks, RV parks and multiunit developments are addressed. Campbell said those sites can receive a main address and additional unit identifiers so emergency services can locate individual units. The commission asked staff to make addressing a required step before plat approval and to include 9-1-1 review earlier in the process.
