Brooks County approves several small budget transfers and a pay increase for JP #1 head clerk

The Brooks County Commissioners approved several interline transfers at their Aug. 29 special meeting to fund court-appointed civil attorneys and routine department needs. The court moved $2,000 from a secretary line to court-appointed civil attorneys and $3,375 from another appointed-attorney line into the same account to cover civil appointed counsel; both motions passed unanimously.
Commissioners also approved smaller transfers: $250 to building repairs (Annex) and $1,400 to gas and oil expense. During a related budget workshop the county auditor identified a $19,000 adjustment and commissioners discussed timing for hiring a traffic officer. Judge Eric Ramos said a JP #1 head clerk position had remained at $26,500 for 10 years, and the court approved a salary increase effective with the new budget year and asked the county auditor to develop a longevity pay scale.
