Council briefed on IT forensic review and discusses e-bike enforcement

City Administrator Jennifer Bromeland updated the council on several administrative items at the July 6 meeting.
Bromeland said a standard IT audit identified one computer of concern; the City reported the matter to its insurer and retained a law firm to conduct forensic analysis at an estimated cost of $20,000. The City will pay a $500 deductible. Bromeland stated no sensitive data was accessed and the computer did not have access to the server. The council did not take formal action but noted the staff is pursuing forensic review and insurance notification.
Separately, the council discussed resident emails and complaints about electric bicycles (e-bikes). Lieutenant Mitch Gahler said officers are enforcing state statute and using education with kids and parents; he reported fewer daytime issues. Council Member Nick Lewis said education appears to be helping and suggested reviewing options if education proves ineffective. The council asked staff to monitor e-bike behavior and state statute changes coming into effect in August.
