Water/Wastewater staff requested council approval to purchase a 2026 Ford F-250 SuperCab pickup through a municipal pricing program with Varsity Ford of Ann Arbor for $50,918, split between two line items in the water department budget. Staff said the vehicle was ordered and will be available in August and described safety- and operational-focused options (snow-plow ready, larger alternator, dual batteries) that justify the purchase price.
Prior to the purchase vote, Council member Hanson moved to waive Section 2-2-24 of the South Lyon code regarding competitive bidding on the basis that no advantage would result from full competitive bidding for this vehicle; council approved the waiver and then approved the purchase by roll call. Council discussed seeking more price comparisons in the future but accepted the savings offered through the government pricing program for this planned replacement vehicle.
