Eagle Lake council approves $27,155 in repairs and new safety equipment for fire department

Mayor John Whitington and the City Council approved repairs and new equipment for the Eagle Lake Fire Department at their July 6 meeting.
Fire Chief Spencer Kolles presented contractor bids to sawcut and remove deteriorated asphalt and concrete and repave around the fire station. He said DMI quoted $21,400 for north-side work and recommended an additional $5,715 to remove and repave the aprons in front of apparatus doors to create a continuous surface. Administrator Jennifer Bromeland told the council capital outlay funds are available to cover the additional cost. Council approved both bids totaling $27,155.
Kolles also reported the department received a Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association grant for a gear-washer extractor covering $5,297.60; the City will purchase the unit and seek reimbursement. Council authorized the $5,297.60 purchase. Kolles requested a SCBA decontamination washer for air packs, gloves and helmets at a cost of $31,992 (including installation), which he said is budgeted and has an estimated 20-plus year lifespan; the council authorized the purchase. Finally, the council approved a budgeted pressure-washer purchase recommended from Skarpohl for $6,800.
Council actions: approval of the parking-lot repairs, authorization to purchase the grant-funded gear washer (to be reimbursed), authorization of the $31,992 SCBA decon washer, and authorization of the $6,800 pressure washer. The approvals were carried by recorded council motions and votes.
