Council approves two-year landscaping contract, schedules special meeting on water-main bids

Mayor Aletha Howes reported that she and Marc Schaadt reviewed a proposed contract for right-of-way landscaping maintenance for 2026'2027 and asked the Council to authorize her to sign the agreement. Because of the dollar amount ("approx. $38,000 per year"), the mayor sought council authorization; Councilmember Tom Stowe moved to authorize the Mayor to execute the contract with Marc's Lawn Service and the motion passed 5-0.
Councilmember Brad Wheeler and Town Engineer Stacia Schroeder said the speed bump on 107th will be repaired in early 2026 and asked the catch basin at the beach to be cleaned. Schroeder also reported that the City of Bellevue will open bids for its water-main replacement project on Jan. 8, 2026; the town expects notification within 10 days and will have five days after notice to decide whether to proceed with a concurrent water-line project. The council expects to hold a special meeting in mid-to-late January to make a go/no-go decision.
Councilmember Paula Dix described participation in an urban-forestry forum and said she is seeking bids for tree work in 2026; the council will consider those bids and related greenspace recommendations in upcoming meetings.
