The Barbour County Commission approved a $100,000 allocation from the Coal Severance fund to the Barbour County Ambulance Authority to ease cash-flow pressure tied to billing deficiencies. The action followed a presentation by Aaron Bostel of the Ambulance Authority describing ongoing problems collecting from Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield and facility billings.
Bostel presented specific invoices for consideration, including a property insurance renewal with Bill Bailey, a transmission replacement for unit 163 from T&T Transmission, and the final two Stryker lease invoices. Bob Richardson moved to deobligate funds for a splash pad but amended the motion to allocate $100,000 to the Ambulance Authority; Jedd Schola seconded. The motion carried 3–0 (Strait, Schola, Richardson voting yes).
Commissioners also reviewed a request to purchase ACLS and PALS instructor kits to support advanced paramedic courses. The Barbour County Training Center will fund the required 30% grant match, with the remaining 70% to be paid from an EMS Equipment grant, according to the materials presented to the commission.
