Fire Department seeks improved radio links with Fast Squad, trials Active911 alerting

A Fire Department representative identified as Jackie briefed the Selectboard on Sept. 9 about efforts to improve on-scene communications among the Fire Department, Fast Squad and BTEMS. Jackie said the department will meet with dispatch partners and try a three-month trial of switching BTEMS calls to the town dispatch so firefighters and Fast Squad can receive timely on-scene updates.
Jackie noted the town is pursuing a workaround with Active911 to alert volunteer responders and said the Fire Chief will respond to scenes more frequently to help coordination. She also reported that three members of the Williamstown Fire Department are enrolled in Firefighter Level 1 training this year. The Selectboard accepted the update; no formal vote was recorded.
