Commission to assess unstable headstone and other maintenance needs at Village Cemetery

During the Aug. 22 meeting, Orvil Lasell reported a large stone in the back corner by the shed at the Village Cemetery that appears to have water running underneath and no foundation, creating a risk of the stone falling down the bank. The commission agreed the stone needs attention; Joe Mangan said he would look at it and seek help if needed, either by contacting Dennis Beaudin or attempting to lift it with a tripod.
Joe Mangan also reported he has not yet repaired two stones in East Hill because conditions have been too wet for them to set properly. Chair Matt Couillard and Orvil Lasell earlier removed a broken tree limb near Jeannine Murphy’s property but left damaged fencing in place, and Couillard said he has asked Bobby Molinario (REM) to provide a price estimate for material for the lower road in the Village Cemetery. The commission directed follow-up assessment and procurement steps to secure materials and any needed assistance.
