Council reviewed and adopted the fiscal-year 2026–27 budget calendar and approved meeting-schedule changes for the budget season. Staff noted meetings will be held on Wednesdays this year due to a recurring scheduling conflict with the Lions Club; council also approved the budget calendar and appointed Josette Mitchell as budget officer for the 2026–27 process.
"I move Josette Mitchell is the budget officer for the 2026–27 budget process and approve the budget calendar," Councilor (speaker 4) said when making the motion. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Councilors discussed later review of liaison assignments to committees and encouraged continuity between liaisons and committees.
Why it matters: Appointment of a budget officer starts the formal budget process and assigns responsibility for coordinating public notices, scheduling hearings, and compiling the draft budget. Moving meeting days aims to maximize participation and avoid conflicts with other recurring community events.
Next steps: Josette Mitchell will act as the budget officer during the process and staff will follow the adopted calendar, including required public-notice steps and hearings.
