Councilor warns Columbia County may remove local road-staffing, raising emergency-response concerns

The councilor said he had discussed the possibility with county leadership and local fire officials and questioned how consolidating crews would save money without slowing emergency response.
The councilor urged colleagues to "look into it and offer your concerns," noting that the county fire-defense board may form a resolution discouraging the staffing change. The mayor and other councilors acknowledged the concern and asked staff and fire leadership to continue communications with county officials; no formal city resolution was made at the meeting.
