Hillsborough Elementary principal presented the school plan for student achievement, laying out five goals focused on reclassification of English learners, measurable student growth, family engagement, social-emotional learning and expanded project-based learning.
On reclassification, the principal highlighted targets (for example a 20% reclassification goal for TK–5 in certain grade bands and past campus rates such as FMC reaching about 36% and HES about 17%). She described a daily designated ELD schedule (HES: five days of 30 minutes; FMC: four days at 40 minutes and one day at 30 minutes) and said interim assessments are used to guide instruction. "Teachers were a little nervous about the shorter time as opposed to an hour, but it's been a really great transition so far this year," the principal said.
The plan also calls for embedding professional learning communities (PLCs/PLTs) into common planning time and rolling out common formative assessments (CFAs) to monitor growth. The principal said family engagement will be measured using YouthTruth family survey data with a goal of year-over-year improvement, and SEL will be measured with the CELWeb/Insights instrument. Trustees asked about ELAC signatures and implementation timelines; staff said signature pages will be attached when the plan returns for approval in November.
