Hillsborough High presents WASC accreditation priorities and SPSA data

Hillsborough High School staff summarized their WASC accreditation work and related School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). Principal Dr. Daytonhausen (speaker 17) and teacher‑lead Ben (speaker 18) walked trustees through growth areas identified in the WASC self‑study: clarifying mission/vision and SLOs, strengthening Tier‑1 instruction across subjects, advancing MTSS practices and building PLCs for collaborative instruction. The presenters highlighted progress: improved CAASPP results in math and English, an AP program with 18 courses and six CTE pathways, a decrease in suspension rates from 9% to 3% and a decrease in chronic absenteeism from 40% to 30% (noted as still unacceptable).
Staff noted new academic strategies including expanded use of STAR and IXL to personalize instruction, early‑warning systems, and an academic workshop course that has produced attendance and engagement gains. The school is finalizing mission and vision statements to drive instructional coherence and expects the WASC visiting team to recommend next steps during the Feb. 24–26 visit; the WASC board will then vote on accreditation status.
