Healdsburg Unified reports summer-school growth, credit-recovery gains

District leaders presented a summer-school summary showing about 400 elementary students participated, with 86 students provided three additional weeks of full‑day learning and a partnership with the city to extend programming. Elementary sessions focused on reading, writing, math and project-based learning in small classes (about 16 students maximum) and included cross-grade sharing, reader’s theater and hands-on units such as incubating chicks.
For secondary students, administrators said 89 students attended the six-week program (two 3‑week sessions) with opportunities to earn up to 10 credits; staff described a new math scheduling model that splits semester content into focused sessions and reported measurable grade improvements, including students who increased course scores substantially over three weeks. Presenters also added a Wednesday after‑school intervention to support students who need additional help and reported strong teacher and counselor involvement.
