County approves $50,175 roller purchase and $30,000 shoulder tar project on County Road 17

Highway Superintendent Don Scholten requested purchase of a 2023 Caterpillar steel roller from Ziegler CAT for $50,175.00 to replace an existing 1996 roller; the board approved the purchase contingent on inspection by two highway employees, and the 1996 roller will be declared surplus after delivery of the new unit. Scholten said parts for the 1996 roller are difficult to source and that $50,000 had been budgeted for replacement.
Scholten also proposed extending and tarring shoulders on County Road 17 to the Hendricks Golf Course. The board approved work on both east and west shoulders at a total cost of $30,000.00 ($7,200 east; $22,800 west) following a motion by Commissioner Dean Nielsen and second by Chair Steve Hauswedell. The board also approved promoting a Highway Technician II to Technician III after the employee met promotion requirements.
