Regional planner seeks county match for Safe Roads to School federal grant

Chris Webb, transportation planner with the Southwest Regional Development Commission, presented a proposed Countywide Safe Roads to School Plan that the SRDC intends to pursue via a federal grant. Webb said the grant would fund crash-data analysis, mapping of school travel routes and sidewalks, identification of priority safety improvements, community engagement, and a phased implementation and funding strategy.
Webb said the grant timeline anticipates award in 2028–2029 and that applications will start in June 2026; he said the county match would be approximately 3–5 percent. He plans to meet with adjacent counties and each school district and said a county resolution would come to the board for identified project areas prior to construction funding requests.
