Big Stone County commissioners discussed early items for the 2026 budget during the Sept. 2 work session, including whether to remove parcel solid‑waste assessments and instead pay for the solid‑waste contract through levy dollars. The minutes record that retiree health insurance rates had not yet been received and that use of compensatory absence balances for upcoming staffing costs could be considered for 2026.
The board also discussed the Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) appropriation. Pam Rud noted that the preliminary levy will need to be set at the Sept. 16 board meeting. No formal budget or levy motion was recorded during this session.
