Council unanimously adopts ordinance to canvass special-election returns
Summary
Following staff tabulation of precinct totals, the Bellaire City Council moved, seconded and unanimously adopted an ordinance canvassing the May 2 special election and declaring Todd Thurber elected to Position No. 4.
After staff presented precinct and cumulativetotals for the May 2 special election, a council member moved to adopt an ordinance canvassing the returns and declaring the results.
The motion was seconded and, with five council members present, the Chair called for a voice vote and stated, “It passes unanimously.” The ordinance formalizes the certification process and authorized the issuance of a certificate of election to the successful candidate.
The Chair also thanked the city election staff for executing the election administration in a tight timeframe and instructed staff to prepare the certificate of election and affix the city seal.
