The Abilene Planning and Zoning Commission approved a request by Hendrick Medical Center to rezone about 6.82 acres at 650 North 18th Street to general commercial zoning. Planner Adam Holland presented maps and staff findings, saying the request is consistent with the comprehensive plan, neighboring uses and the Land Development Code; staff recommended approval.
BJ Pritchard of EHT Engineering, representing the applicant, described the request as straightforward: Hendrick wants to consolidate property under a single commercial zoning to allow for future medical-related development. "Hendrick, again, is just looking to kinda consolidate property ... and just wanna get it under 1 commercial zoning to allow for, future medical facilities or something related to that," Pritchard said. Commissioners moved to approve the measure and the motion carried.
The commission's approval will be forwarded to City Council for final action and may be appealed in writing according to the city's appeal procedures.
